Unique living with private berths alongside the water

On the quay of the southern tip of Oostenburg island, De Amsterdam is rising along the Willem Parelstraat. A bold apartment complex with 32 rental units, 3 lifts and an indoor communal cycle shed. Great attention has been paid to the luxurious finish of all the flats and the communal areas. Most apartments are located directly on the water and also feature a spacious balcony or even a generous roof terrace. Immediately below the building are berths with docks for a sloop or boat. Electric charging points and water connections are also available. There is a choice of six different energy-efficient types of housing with floor areas ranging from around 42 m² to 97 m². Rents range from approximately €1,250 to €3,425 per month and do not include service charges. De Amsterdam is expected to be your new home from May 2023. Interested? Then register quickly!

Living at Oostenburg will soon mean living in an attractive inner-city area development. While preserving the existing historic buildings, such as the Van Gendthallen, Werkspoorhal and Roest, around 1,800 homes will be built. A diversity of architecture of various rental properties, owner-occupied flats and self-built homes. In addition, there is still plenty of room for leisure spots, restaurants and shops. And that, while the beautiful Plantage neighbourhood and Amsterdam city centre are also within walking distance.

The Amsterdam and Oostenburg - the roots

Oostenburg was once the base of the VOC. Shipyards and warehouses for precious spices from the East Indies were built there. Many flat blocks on Oostenburg are named after VOC ships. This includes De Amsterdam, named after a mirror-return ship. This ship was the VOC's most important and largest type of cargo ship at the time.

After the VOC era, when the industrial revolution began, Oostenburg became the centre of machine factories. The new housing estate preserves this historic core of Oostenburg. Thus, not only do the Van Gendthallen, the old quay walls and the iconic blue crane trestles remain, but the monumental Werkspoorhal is now a bustling meeting place with restaurants, shops and galleries.

Waterfront living on Oostenburg island

Berths are available under the apartments. Tenants of a select number of apartments will also be offered the opportunity to rent a berth for a sloop or boat. How cool is it to soon be able to jump straight into your sloop or boat from your home, take to the Amsterdam canals and moor at one of the waterside cafés or restaurants? This is exactly what makes living in De Amsterdam extra unique.

Rental process explanation

Phase 1: Register as interested party (end of March 2023)
In this phase, we would like to know whether you might be interested in renting in De Amsterdam. Please use the registration form to indicate your choice of apartment type and price level.

Phase 2: The interest phase ~ compose a top 3 (early April 2023)
The house finder will display which apartment type is located where in De Amsterdam. For each flat, the rental price is displayed and you can view the floor plans. You register via the house finder with your top 3 properties. The FAQ describes which documentation you need to provide. Partners can only register once together. Double registrations may be excluded from allocation. If you need help filling in the form, the rental team will be happy to assist you.

Phase 3: Allocation phase ~ assessment, viewings and tenancy agreement (April/May 2023)
Once you have submitted all requested documents, we will assess them according to the criteria mentioned in the FAQ. Naturally, we will handle this with discretion. After all documents have been positively assessed and verified, we can invite you for a viewing, where we will take your preferences into account as much as possible, depending on the overall interest. If, after the viewing, you have indicated that you would like to rent in De Amsterdam, we will introduce you to the landlord. The flat can only be definitively assigned to you after the landlord has given his explicit approval. When the landlord gives you a warm welcome in De Amsterdam, we will draw up the rental agreement, discuss it with you and submit it for your signature.

Phase 4: Completion ~ Check-in and key transfer (May 2023)
On the day the lease takes effect, we will schedule an appointment with you for the check-in and key transfer. We will check the property with you and record the meter readings in a so-called inspection form. Once the first rent payment has been received, the property is in the agreed condition and the inspection form has been signed, we will hand over the keys to you. Welcome home to De Amsterdam!
